Women Vs. Minnesota Aurora

Perhaps one of their toughest tasks this season, River Light FC’s USL W side will square off against Minnesota Aurora, a team that hasn’t lost a regular season game in their two year history.
“They bring in players from across the country and they try to bring in players that they think are going to be future professional players in the women's game,” Head coach Charlie Latshaw said. “It's about as close to professional soccer as you can get.”
Minnesota Aurora comes into this one with a 8-0 victory against the Chicago Dutch Lions FC, a team that River Light also defeated by a similar margin last week. Three different athletes scored braces for Minnesota Aurora, as forward Tess Wertz and midfielders Sophie French and Lydia Ruppert each struck twice Thursday night.
“It's really good that we're getting them here at home early so we can really see what the standard is in terms of what the best teams in the country are like at this level,” Latshaw said. “They're picking the litter in terms of talent and it will come down to which team makes less mistakes.”
Ranked seventh in the USL W preseason polls after winning the last two Heartland Division Championships, Minnesota Aurora will look to three-peat this season with 11 returnees and plenty of promising newcomers.
“I think the women showed their class on the weekend and now the question is, can we go and replicate that against a slightly higher end opponent that has better athletes and is maybe a little bit better structured?” Latshaw said. “I personally think we can.”
