River Light vs Bavarian Preview

After their late 2-1 loss against Chicago City SC, River Light FC looks to get back to winning ways against Bavarian United SC.

This past Tuesday, River Light (1-1-1) dropped their first match of the season against a difficult Chicago City SC opponent. TCU’s Bella Diorio scored her second goal of the season as Chicago City won the first of two matches in the last kick of the game.

“Sometimes you can outplay somebody and you can do all the right things and then at the end of the day you may not score the goals,” head coach Charles Latshaw said.

It was all River Light during the first 18 minutes of action as they consistently produced opportunities. However, River Light didn’t land the first punch until the 18th minute as a pass behind the back line found Diorio, who just had to chip it over the Chicago City keeper who was off her line.

After equalizing in the second half, a Chicago City attack resulted in some unfortunate bounces for River Light who struggled to hang onto the draw in stoppage time.

“The other team was highly motivated and at the end of the day it just kind of took a weird turn at the end,” Latshaw said. “I think it was more of a goal that just kind of happened.”

With another chance at three points, River Light will take a road trip up north to Wisconsin to face a highly motivated Bavarian United that put seven goals past the Chicago Dutch Lions earlier this week. Propelling Bavarian United to victory were Molly Keiper and Zuchowski, who each scored a brace in the 7-2 victory.

“It's good for us to play them off the bat to get a dose of reality of what the expectations are in terms of talent at this level,” Latshaw said. “Especially with two games in three days for the women over the weekend, we will have some squad rotation, you'll see a lot of faces.”
