River Light Make 2024 USL W Playoffs

After eight victories and 49 goals, River Light FC have qualified for the USL W playoffs in their inaugural season and will have the chance to fight for the ultimate reward in July.

Taking one of the four wild card spots, River Light needed Detroit City FC (Great Lakes Division, 9-0-2) to defeat Midwest Central (GLD, 7-4) in order to clinch the Central Division wildcard. Detroit City did just that as they narrowly defeated the Michigan-based side 1-0 last night.

The wild card bids are given to teams with the highest points per game from the Heartland and Great Lakes divisions and the Lights achieved this with a 2.27 PPM.

In order to avoid inter-divisional match-ups, No.4 seed River Light will face No.2 seed Detroit City in the conference semifinals. While on the other side, fellow Heartland Division foe Minnesota Aurora (9-0-2) will play Indy Eleven (Valley Division, 7-0-2).

One of these four teams will host all three games of the Conference Semifinals and Final, with playoff hosts determined via a bid process conducted by USL. Playoffs are set to take place July 5th with the final set for July 7th.

Only 16 teams out of 80 continue to play soccer into July making it a big achievement for any USL W club. With the Chicago Dutch Lions result pending, the Lights finish off the season with an 8-2-1 record, earning 25 points while only conceding 10 goals.
