Men At Sueno FC
A short trip is in the cards for River Light FC’s League Two team as they face off against fellow debutant Sueno FC. With both teams being new to USL League Two, scouting the Joliet side was difficult for head coach Charlie Latshaw and his coaching staff.
“Some of the local stuff is kind of figuring out who everybody has,” Latshaw said. “We do know some of the players that are down there and there's a few guys that we had in previous summers.”
With experience at the United Premier Soccer League level, the Joliet-based side played and won their first playoff game in the Midwest Central division last season. Sueno had their first taste of the USL level against St. Charles FC this past Wednesday in a 2-1 loss, despite leading at the half.
Coached by former scouting department member for the Chicago Fire, Matt Pearson, both teams bring local flavors to their respective sides.
“At the end of the day, both teams are full of guys that are local prospects so they all kind of know each other,” Latshaw said.
With many schools still wrapping up for the summer, both squads will have to make due with what they have, making this first game a toss-up.
“It's always a toss-up these game ones, you never know what players are actually available for each club,” Latshaw said. “So we just kind of got to go out there and feel it out game one and see where they're at.”
River Light FC’s season opener will be played at Canlan Fieldhouse - Barrington this Saturday with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Come support River Light FC in enemy territory as they begin their USL trek!
“I would expect a competitive game and for us we obviously hope that we can go out there and start the season with three points,” Latshaw said. “Any win that you can get on the road here is very important.”
